Hertha Berlin vs Heidenheim prediction: 2. Bundesliga pick, odds and team news
Matchday two of the German second tier sends 1. FC Heidenheim to the Olympiastadion, and the whole shape of the bet comes down to a single red card. Our three pundits reached a unanimous verdict: Heidenheim +0.25 at 1.88 with Matchbook.
Both won, but one of them paid for it
Hertha opened the season with a 1-0 away win at VfL Bochum, Sebastian Grönning scoring the winner. Heidenheim won 4-3 at home against VfL Osnabrück — three points from a seven-goal game.
The difference is what happened at Bochum. Hertha defender Linus Gechter was shown a direct red card in that match and is suspended here. A home favourite losing a starting centre-back to suspension is the one hard, verifiable change to either side this week.
Heidenheim arrive clean
The visitors report no injuries and no suspensions. Budu Zivzivadze has six goals in his last ten league appearances, and he walks into a reshuffled Hertha back line. A preview also notes that Hertha lost several key players over the summer without replacing them — treat the judgement as opinion, but the departures are reported.
No league history to read
These two have never met in a league fixture. Their only competitive meetings came in the DFB Pokal, Hertha winning 2-1 in 2024 and 3-2 in 2016. There is no meaningful head-to-head to lean on.
What the room said
The Skeptic called Heidenheim 2-1 and framed it bluntly: a side down a starting centre-half, that lost players all summer, is still favourite at home.
The Believer disagreed about the result and still backed the bet. Heidenheim conceded three at home to Osnabrück on the same weekend Hertha won away with a clean sheet, so he called it 2-2 — which on a quarter-ball line still returns half the stake. That is how a room that disagrees about the winner ends up unanimous on the bet.
The Quant took the quarter-ball over the half-ball for a plain reason: both rungs lose in exactly the same place, so there is no insurance being bought by going shorter — only less money for the same risk.
The honest counterweight
One suspension is one player. Hertha won away and kept a clean sheet doing it, so their defence is not in crisis on results, and Heidenheim's own back line shipped three at home last weekend. This is a one-absentee angle against a side that has just conceded three, not a mismatch.
The verdict
Heidenheim +0.25 @ 1.88 (Matchbook) — all three pundits on it, from two different readings of the match. A reasoned play, not a lock, posted before kickoff and public afterwards either way.
