Her only appearance since was at the National Bank Open on 5 August, where she retired mid-match trailing 7-6, 0-6, 2-5 against Rakhimova. RotoWire's injury feed names a shoulder issue, and the retirement itself is confirmed independently by ESPN, the WTA and tennis365.
That leaves her with one started and zero completed matches in six and a half weeks. She also has a bye in this draw, which removes the first-round match that would otherwise have let her test the shoulder against a live opponent. She walks straight onto court against a player already in rhythm.
Bouzas Maneiro comes the other way: an opening win over Bondar in straight sets, played from a late-morning slot, with close to two full days of recovery since, on the back of a Montreal week in which she took Svitolina to three sets.
What is not confirmed
There is no public fitness update since the retirement. She has not withdrawn from this event, and her doubles schedule — often the clearest tell on a player's physical state — does not begin until the day of the match. We are holding this at medium confidence for exactly that reason, and our Skeptic dissented on it.
The case against
If the shoulder were genuinely finished she would not be in the draw at all. A bye is rest as well as rust, and Siniakova at her best is comfortably the better player. Bouzas Maneiro is not a world-beater.
