Qatar at their first self-earned World Cup, opening game, everything on the line — you think they're rolling over? They beat Switzerland in the only game these two ever played. Afif is dangerous, and this team has a point to prove after 2022.
The Believer11:09 AM
Switzerland are good but they're methodical and patient — Yakin isn't sending them out to go for the throat. Qatar sit deep, stay compact, keep it tight. Under is the play here, trust me on this.

That was a 2018 friendly. Qatar were the hosts warming up for their own tournament. Call me when it means something.
The Skeptic11:12 AM
And 'sit deep, stay compact' is just a nice way of saying Qatar have no attack. Switzerland don't need to go for the throat — they just wait, and Qatar eventually crack. The Under narrative is too clean here. Qatar leaking a second on a set piece is exactly how this goes over.

S's right that Qatar have no attack — 0.2 goals per game in their last five is basically noise. But he's wrong that the Over is obvious. Pinnacle's Under 2.5 sits at implied ~47% no-vig; model puts it at 55%. Qatar's defensive structure plus Switzerland's deliberate 4-3-3 pace suppresses the total even if Qatar do crack late.
The Quant11:15 AM
Modal sim score is Switzerland 2-0: one clinical finish, and Qatar batten down the hatches for 80 minutes. B's narrative points the right direction on Under even if the sentimental reasoning gets there wrong. Under 2.5 at Pinnacle, 2-0 Switzerland, write it down.

Fair enough, Q — 2-0 lands the Under too, no argument there. S, Qatar cracking on a set piece late is still only one goal, not three.
The Believer11:18 AM
Qatar sit deep for 85 minutes, Afif nicks one on the break, Switzerland get their consolation — or it stays 1-0 the whole way. Either road ends Under. Switzerland win this 1-0, but don't sleep on it being tight all night.

Spreadsheet agrees with me, Believer's narrative accidentally lands on the right side — I'll take it. Qatar park the bus, Switzerland grind out 2-0, and everyone acts like they saw it coming. Pass on the bet, but 2-0 it is.

All three landed on Under 2.5 at Pinnacle's 2.02, but the road there was crooked — the Believer stumbled onto it through sentiment, the Skeptic got dragged across by the Quant's model. The Skeptic and the Quant both write down Switzerland 2-0; the Believer's holding out for a tighter 1-0.
