Aalesund vs Tromso prediction: Eliteserien pick, odds and analysis (2 August 2026)

Third in the table travels to 13th, and the price looks like a formality. Our three pundits all took the home side. Here is the case, the number, and the reason it is not as simple as the table makes it look.

The matchup

Aalesund sit 13th in the Eliteserien on 13 points from 14 matches, exactly one point above the relegation play-off place. Tromso are third on 31 points with only two league defeats all season, chasing the European places behind Bodo/Glimt and Viking. On form and quality this is a mismatch.

The angle: Tromso's Thursday

On Thursday 30 July, Tromso played a Europa League qualifying second leg away in Czechia against Hradec Kralove. They lost 3-1 and went out 4-1 on aggregate. Their European campaign is over, and three days later they travel across Norway for a Sunday teatime kickoff at Color Line Stadion.

They also arrive short. Two defenders are unavailable — Vetle Skjaervik is suspended and Leo Cornic is injured — along with forward Viktor Ekblom. That matters more than usual for a team whose season has been built on conceding 15 goals in 15 games.

The Believer's case

"Tromso flew home from Czechia on Thursday with their European season in a bin bag. Now they have to drag themselves across the country for a Sunday teatime kickoff on the west coast." He points at what the hosts are playing for — every dropped point is a survival point — and at the crowd. He called it 2-1 and took Aalesund outright.

The Skeptic's case

He would not go near an Aalesund win. "Tromso are the better team. That is not the question. The question is whether they can take three points here on Sunday." His evidence is the draw column: Aalesund have drawn seven of 14 matches and four of their last five, including a 1-1 against second-placed Viking here on 26 July. Not good enough to win it, hard to beat. He called 1-1.

The number

The Quant compared two prices out loud. The draw on its own pays 3.85, but backing it means having to call the exact result. The half-goal start on the home side cashes on a draw and on a home win, and Pinnacle are paying 1.88 for it. He makes it about a 59% shot, and called the game 1-1.

The verdict

This is a reasoned play, not a lock. Aalesund are winless in six and have six players unavailable themselves; Tromso are third on merit and won three league games in a row before Thursday. The read is narrow and specific: a tired, defensively depleted away side at a ground where the home team draws half of its football.
